There's no fooling a NoodleBug...or is there?

I always had this vision of having young kids and being able to fool them time and time again but Alexandra is not your average foolable child.  It's a tad dissapointing of course to struggle to fool a three year old but it does make for some very funny moments.  Here are a few:
A few days ago we were all driving in the pooring rain on the highway and Alexandra was complaining that she didn't like the rain on the car (it was raining really hard) so Dad says "I'll make it stop for a few seconds, just let me concentrate" then just as we're about to go under a short bridge he says "It will stop.... Now!..... ok all done.  Phew, that takes a lot of concentration".  Of course Alexandra says " Do it again Dad!" so as another bridge comes, he does it again.  We then encourage Alexandra to try and after a few seconds of looking very concentrated she says "It doesn't work.  I'll have to wait until we get to a bridge".   Smart kid.

Another classic is the look away and I'll take your dessert.  In our case it was the look away and take away the Trick or Treat bag that she picks her dessert from.  Dad gets her to look outside and as she turns around she doesn't see her bag.  This doesn't phase her for a second.  She looks around and says "Dad... why did you put it there??"

Of course with this realism we're skirting a dangerous topic when it comes to Santa because she asks many questions about the logistics of how this whole night works.  She's been hounding me about how he knows when kids are sleeping.  I finally told her there was a light on the roof that goes on when kids fall asleep.  We'll see how long that lasts.
On the flip side she has no doubt there is something known as "the pick up fairy" who takes any toys that haven't been put away and Muisje Albertje who lives in our house and sneaks bites of cake, candy and any other delicious food that might be laying out.

The making of a Gobble Gobble

I found this fun little cookbook at our locally owned and amazing supermarket ( I LOVE this store).  Anyway,  Winnie and Alexandra have been making some super cute stuff out of the book, the latest of which is the Gobble Gobble (as Alexandra calls it)

How cute is that?

Milestones

It seems the 6 month mark came with some milestones for Emmett.  He cut a tooth (on Nov 6th to be exact) and he now also scoots around.  It was a bit of a shock to be sitting next to Emmett realizing he had moved 3 feet across the floor.  Time to start thinking about baby proofing again...

6 Months

It's hard to believe that two weeks ago our little man turned 6 months!  We celebrated the big day by getting on a plane back to Portland.  Probably not the most exciting for him.  I am very excited to report that once again I was able to grow a baby using only my milk.  Of course I was so excited to get Emmett started on solids but apparently he just isn't that interested.  Day 1 of solids was met with one dip of rice cereal which the kid was tricked to eat and after that he became the expert at weaving.  About a week later he gobbled up a whole bowl but since then he once again manages to duck and weave any attempt of food.
Once you hand him the spoon he's more than happy to tackle that though.

We also had our 6 month appointment with the following stats:
Weight:  16 lbs 8 oz which is 40%
Height:  40%
Head:  80%

He's also starting to scoot around and sit up quite well.  He continues to be such a happy little guy although he does have an ear infection which has been bugging him recently so here's hoping he'll get through that soon.

Surfing

Towards the end of the week I finally decided to take surf lessons. While I played around in the waves Dad watched both kids and even found some time to come take pictures. At the end Alexandra was nice enough to help me with my board.

I am proud to say I got up on the first wave and a few after that too...

Emmett's Pool Experience

While in Maui Emmett got to try the pool too. It was amazingly cold when we first got there and Emmett's reaction didn't take me by surprise.

After some toe dipping in the ocean and a follow up visit in the pool later in the week Emmett was a happy water camper. He even went underwater without much shock.
